It’s difficult to imagine life without smartphones.Some people just can’t watch one episode of OITNB – they need to check out the whole series in one sitting. Others can’t enjoy a slice of cake – they must eat the whole thing.(im guilty of that too).The average college student uses a smartphone for about nine hours each day which is longer than the time they spent sleeping. We all have gone through the phase when we need to check our smartphones inorder to avid being socially awkward. Dinner with friends has turned out to be dinner with our cellpones.Every waking moment has to be posted on facebook to let the world know what we are upto.These are some seious signs we are addicted and its only gonna get worse.
Cellphone addiction can be taken in the same breath as other technology addictions, such as computers and gaming, which all belong to a larger group of behavioral addictions (to gambling, exercise, sex, etc.). Anything that is responsible of producing pleasure in your brain has the potential of becoming addictive. Loss of control is the essential element of any addiction. Some cell phone users show the same symptoms that a drug addict might have. Certain people use smartphones to lift their moods. And it may take more and more time on those phones to provide the same level of enjoyment.
Studies have been conducted on college students regarding their cellphone use.. “I spend more time than required on my cell phone,” said one such statement. “I get angry when my cell phone is not in sight,” said another. The more calls someone made, the more likely they were to show signs of addiction.
With apps like instagram,whatsapp,skype,facebook constantly within our grasp the need to get attention has risen among teens.This is also making us believe that we can multitask between activities.Think about watching TV while listening to a book on tape. It would be difficult to recount the TV show’s plot or write an informed book report. Yet, we use the same kind of cognitive brain power when we drive or talk on a cell phone which is the one of the leading causes of death in america.
So the question remains as to how we can stop this addiction.Some steps can be taken by banning the use of cellpones in cars.but we all been guilty of walking on the road;looking at our smartphones instead of the road ahead. The only way to do it is to limit our use.Not necessarily checking our phone for every notification.Taking nature walks.Actually meeting up with friends and talking to them.Using apps like offtime,checky.But the most simple way would be turning it off and taking a good nights rest which your body needs.
