Can Marijuana Be An Alternative Medicine?

Marijuana also known as Cannabis and by many other numerous names is the preparation of the Cannabis plant intended to use as a drug and medicine. The Cannabis plant has a history of medicinal use dating back thousands of years across many cultures.

Marijuana is used to relieve pain, control nausea and vomiting and stimulate appetite in people with cancer and AIDS. Marijuana has anti-bacterial properties, inhibits tumor growth, and enlarges the airways, which can ease the severity of asthma attacks. Many suggests that marijuana oil or “hemp” oil can cure cancer as well as diabetes, ulcers, arthritis, migraines, insomnia, infections, and many other diseases. The Intake of medical Marijuana is done by variety of routes including vaporizing or smoking dried buds, eating extracts and taking capsules.

Cannabinoids can serve as antiemetic, antispasmodics and have some analgesic effects, may be helpful in treating chronic non-cancerous pain or vomiting caused by chemotherapy. Cannabis is effective for chronic pain which is caused by neuropathy and possibly also that due to fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis. The FDA has approved two oral Cannabinoids for use as medicine dronabinol and nabilone.

Dronabinol, synthetic THC (Tetra Hydro Cannabinol), is listed as Schedule III, i.e. it has some potential for dependence and nabilone, a synthetic cannabinoid is Schedule II, indicating high potential for side effects and addiction.

The problem people have with marijuana is movies portray marijuana smokers as stupid and irresponsible. Responsible marijuana smokers present no threat or danger to those around them and should not be treated as criminals. Regulating and taxing marijuana is the best way for the government to get a handle on things by controlling it and hopefully it could help the economy.
